First Cruise of 2021

Only 3 days into the new year and already we are on our first cruise, albeit short and missing the fine cuisine that we have become accustomed to. Not long after boarding the ferry we arrived on the east side of the River Elbe then a quick drive to Gluckstad for an encore visit and lunch to be enjoyed in the moblie diner.

We didn't "miss the boat" but arrived too late for a takeaway lunch from the Anno Hotel. The tall Christmas tree still stands decorated in the market square.

A lovely Sunday drive took us through Hamburg, past the enormous Airbus facility, then following the River Elbe northward where mile after mile were unique apple orchards. This type of apple growing looked unlike the big apple trees that I have known. They were all growing closely together more like a vineyard. Maybe we should have tried this type of orchard at Walleye World. After at least 10 years we grew 1 apple but did feed most of the tree branches to the resident deer population.

It appeared that the apples grew in clusters. Looks like a couple of them did not make it to market.

Right next to us at a traffic stop was the world's smallest car. Oliver and I were led to believe that the Peel P50 held the record for the smallest car. Upon further reading, the Peel P50 only has 3 wheels so technically it does not fit the description of "automobile". That yellow and white BMW Isetta surely is tiny and has 4 wheels.

Automobile: a passenger vehicle designed for operation on ordinary roads and typically having four wheels and a gasoline or diesel internal-combustion engine

That definition is most likely debatable. (typically)

Peter unearthed this photo of his neighbor's BMW Isetta.
