Sugar Shack Season 2011
We have arrived! But where is Spring?
Kicking off Sugar Shack Season 2011.... Passing through the gates of Shanty Town we were mooned, I mean greeted greeted by a White-tailed Deer. Guess how we knew that it was a White-tailed Deer? When alarmed, White-tails fan their ears and raise their white undertails, as though raising a white flag. This is a signal to other deer that danger is nearby.
No new washouts on the road. The gut has filled up with enough water to hopefully become as a top notch breeding pond. We should see some serious minnow production this season, maybe a bumper crop of minnows for Uncle Bobber.
There is still ice on the lake surrounded by an eight foot plus moat of newly thawed water. You know how Twelve Hammers thinks that he can walk on water (frozen), this ring of water from shore to ice mass will deter some of his temptation. He did however suggest that as soon as I am ready we could take the canoe and circumnavigate the ice. You've heard "when Hell freezes over"? I say "when the lake thaws." My mother didn't raise no dummy.
Watching the magic of the brittle ice slowly shatter into tiny jigsaw like pieces, and then somehow one night vanishing, makes cleaning for two days worth it. (just keep telling yourself that) Oh my, the dust, cob webs and dead fly removal will consume my Easter retreat for sure.
Off to change clothes and search for my yellow rubber gloves.
This is fun, this IS fun, this is fun, this is fun.....
